Today’s play called for feeding the plants. I got the solid-sprinkle-on type thinking that it’d be easier than mixing the grainy powder in 1.5 gal of water and pouring it on. Truth be told, it’s about the same number of steps. Figures.
I got the plant food out and after reading the instructions found that after I sprinkle it on top of the ground around the plants I have to work it 1-3” into the soil and then water it. See? Not shorter nor easier. Again, it’s not really work, but I was trying to take a shortcut which didn’t pan out.
So I got busy - sprinkling the plant food around the plants. And that’s when Jesus spoke up. He reminded me of the parable of the seed sower. You know the seeds on the good soil, amongst the weeds, on the rocks... it’s in the book of Mark chapter 4. Now this isn’t seed, it’s food for the plants that have already grown and even produced fruit, but the application remains. What I heard through the Holy Spirit this morning was that it doesn’t matter what is on top of the soil of my heart (reading Gods Word, listening to sermons, worshipping, praying) if it’s not getting into the soil where it can feed, grow, and support my heart and produce more fruit for His glory.
Much like the garden, where I sprinkled the food onto the soil, worked it into the soil, and then watered it to “start feeding” (that’s right on the back of the plant food container) my heart needs the same treatment: sprinkle it on (Gods Word, sermons, teaching), work it into the soil (pray for God to work it into my heart and mind) and water (don’t run dry - keep turning to God for His living water - His care, love, and protection in every situation- good, bad, or neutral).
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.” Psalms 1:2 NASB
